Biography

Colin Powell, was an American statesman and military leader who made significant contributions to both the military and political realms. Powell grew up in a working-class neighborhood in The Bronx and shortly after began his military career when he joined the Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) while attending City College of New York. After graduating in 1958, he served as an army officer, displaying exceptional leadership and strategic abilities. Powell rose through the ranks, eventually becoming a four-star general. Powell's military accomplishments included serving two tours of duty in Vietnam, where he earned a reputation for his tactical skills and calm under pressure. He also held various high-ranking positions, such as National Security Advisor under President Ronald Reagan and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff during the Gulf War in the early 1990s. Following his military career, he became the first African American to serve as the United States Secretary of State under President George W. Bush, a position he held from 2001 to 2005. As Secretary of State.
