Felipe Lopez


Felipe López, born on December 19, 1974, in Santiago, Dominican Republic, is a former professional basketball player who left an indelible mark on the sport both on and off the court. López's basketball prowess became evident at a young age. He attended Rice High School in New York City, where he quickly gained recognition as a rising star. His exceptional skills caught the attention of college recruiters across the nation, and he eventually committed to play for the St. John's University Red Storm. During his college career, López showcased his versatility and offensive abilities. He became the face of St. John's basketball, earning widespread acclaim and becoming a beloved figure in the college basketball community. López's impact on the game was further solidified when he received the Haggerty Award as the top college basketball player in the New York metropolitan area in both his sophomore and junior years. In 1998, López decided to forego his senior year of college eligibility and declared for the NBA Draft. He was selected as the 24th overall pick by the San Antonio Spurs. Despite facing some challenges during his professional career, López played for several NBA teams, including the Vancouver Grizzlies, Washington Wizards, and Minnesota Timberwolves.  After his NBA journey, López continued to contribute to the basketball community through various endeavors.
