Born on August 26, 1946, in the Bronx, New York, Valerie Simpson's talent and passion for music were evident from an early age. Simpson's journey in music began when she met her future musical partner, Nickolas Ashford, while they were both students at Harlem's White Rock Baptist Church.  In the 1960s, Simpson and Ashford rose to prominence as a songwriting team, penning numerous hits for other artists. Their songwriting prowess and ability to capture the essence of emotion resonated with the audience. They wrote successful songs for artists such as Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, and Marvin Gaye, solidifying their reputation as talented and sought-after songwriters.
